We are Janice and Samuel Adams, both Teaching Elders in the PCUSA. We retired to Loveland last January, but agreed to remain open to part time ministries in this presbytery that could benefit from our skills and experience.
We both graduated from Whitworth College (now University) in Spokane, WA in 1960 and 1961. Janice is a second career pastor who worked as a church musician, a preschool teacher, a counselor, and as Mission Coordinator in a large downtown church. She earned a Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1991, after completing a MEd in Counseling from Idaho State University in 1977. She was ordained in 1992. Her first call was to a small church on the Duck Valley Indian reservation that straddles the Idaho/Nevada border. Nearing the completion of two more calls, she completed training in interim ministry.
Samuel earned his MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary and was ordained in 1964. In mid career, he spent several years working in community services including child protection and substance abuse treatment, mostly for the State of Idaho. After returning to parish ministry, he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1992. He served as Associate Executive Presbyter in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon before becoming an interim ministry specialist.
Together we have served as transitional pastors in three churches in Colorado, one in Alaska, and one in New Jersey over the past 14 years. Most were located in small and medium sized communities. One was in suburban New York City. Each faced unique challenges as they prepared to call and install a pastor to work with them as the stepped into their future.
For us, planning and leading worship is top priority. We typically follow the cycles of the common lectionary, and use worship materials from a wide spectrum of sources. Beyond that, we particularly enjoy working with congregations as they talk together about their hopes and dreams for ministry in the future. We regularly work with sessions and committees, helping them strengthen their skills for effective ministry.
We will celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary on January1, 2015. We have two married sons, one living in Houston TX, the other in Portland, OR. And we have two granddaughters, one working in Houston, the other attending college in CA.
We look forward to getting to know you and your community, and working with you as you prepare for your ministry in the unfolding 21st century
Samuel and Janice Adams
